We Have Water!

Ok, we've always had water, but now we have somewhere for it to go, other than the engine room, when it goes down the sink drain.  Dave plumbed in the pipe that goes from the sink to the through hull drain.  YAY!

We also were able to get the floor straightened in the galley area.  It no longer slopes to the stern.

Dave, Paul & Dara jacking up the floor

I also cleaned 27 years of nicotine off of the electronics that go in the wheelhouse.  YUCK!  It's amazing what a little windex will do!

I'm so excited to be able to remove 3 things from my to do list!!

Success!

I was finally able to scrape all of the paint off of the water fill cap on the deck last week.  Last year during the "painting extravaganza" I painted several coats of deck paint over the top of it.

Dancing Hula Girl

Our friend Paul brought this little cutie back from Hawaii for us.  She'll sit on the dashboard and do a little dance when the water gets rough!

Are You Done Yet?!

The question we most receive from everyone lately is “are you done yet?”  The go to answer for a while now has been “It’s getting there”.  Our friends of course want to know if we’re going to actually be on the water this season.  We’ve decided that we’re not going to put a deadline on ourselves this year.  Last year we kept setting deadlines and passing them and setting new ones and passing those too.  This year we’re just going to go with the flow.  If we get some work done this week, great; if not, well there is always next week.

The other big question everyone asks is “what’s left to do?”  I thought I’d post the “to do” list here so you all can see what we have left.  Of course this is just my list; Dave probably has a whole bunch more to add!

In no particular order and not necessarily to be done this year:

Install ceilings in Captain's Bunk (DONE)
Panel walls in the Captain's Bunk (DONE)
Panel walls in the wheelhouse (DONE
Panel walls in the head (DONE)
Purchase & install carpet
Plumb & install toilet (DONE)
Plumb & install shower (DONE)
Plumb & install holding tank (DONE)
Plumb sink (DONE)
Fix hole in the lazarette
Reattach the mast
Complete the shop
Complete the pantry/water heater closet
Sand & paint exhaust pipes
Level galley floor (DONE)
Put the name on the boat
Touch up the paint
Install macerator pump (DONE)
Purchase & install bladder water tank
Pressure test the starboard fuel tank
Install lights inside and out
Install the electronics
Restock the boat
Refill the starboard fuel tank
Clean
Remove tape residue from around the cabin (DONE)
Remove all of the excess junk (DONE)
Take down the winter cover (DONE)
Seal the hatch covers

I’m hoping to have at least 2 of these things checked off the list by the end of this weekend!

Low Tide at Aurora

This morning we headed down to the boat with a -3.8 foot tide.  So glad we weren't hauling anything down with us!  The ramp was steep!

The SHAD Has Power!

Since getting back in the water last November, all of our 110V power has come from an extension cord hooked up to the shore power box on the dock.  Today, Dave and I were able to more or less finish up our wiring project and not only do we have 110V, we have 12V again too.  YAY!!

We still have to wire the head, but we're pretty much finished. Now we can start getting the rest of the interior back together again!

In order to get to all of the wiring, Dave had to take down all of the tongue and groove in the wheelhouse, so now all of the walls upstairs are bare.  I can't wait until we get something back up on the walls.

Tongue and groove in the upper bunk

You can see in the above photo that we saved all of the tongue and groove in the hopes that we could use it to patch in the gap downstairs where the ceiling was raised. No such luck.  The wall is covered in ship lap downstairs. The two don't go together.   Oh well, back to the drawing board.
