Tearing Down And Building Up

Spent the day on the boat today.  Usually when I say that I'd follow with saw whales and sea lions and stuff; maybe did some crabbing or caught a fish or two.  Today however, I can say that I saw mold; wet, smelly insulation and more wet, rotted plywood.  YAY!

I painted the walls in the Captain's Bunk this morning with Kilz paint to cover up the mold that was growing behind the paneling.  That is some potent stuff!  While I was working on that Paul, Dave & Ty were tearing into the roof of the wheelhouse.  I was really hoping that by some kind of miracle it would be dry up there.  It wasn't.  The entire roof and ceiling had to come off.  Even after 2 months of being covered in some pretty hot temps the insulation was dripping wet in some places.

While all of that was going on Shawn was putting the head back together. We have to get everything finished up in there so we can get the shower stall back in so we can close up the hole in the lower roof. The new shower floor was welded in already. The floor has been coated in epoxy paint. The insulation has been put back in the wall and a new wall has been constructed between the shower and shop. Phew... these guys have been busy!

Starboard roof.

Bow roof.  The far hole in the roof is where the shower will go through.

Putting up the facia; notice the crown.

Captain's bunk.  You can see the black mold on the white.

More of the Captain's bunk.

Not sure what this wall was, but you can see the rot in the lower corner.

More roof rot.

Looking down through the roof into the head. Hi Shawn.

Starting the roof removal.

Captain's bunk skylight... still not funny!

Captain's bunk, no roof.  Note the nice white walls.

Head.  You can see the epoxy on the floor and the new wall that will go between the shower and shop.

New insulation in the head.

Flying bridge.... just kidding.....maybe.  I'm standing on the Captain's bunk looking towards the bow.
